Dear Families,
As we approach the festival of lights, Diwali, we are reminded of the age-old story that
weaves through time, carrying with it invaluable lessons and echoes of our values as a
community and school. Diwali, also known as Deepavali, signifies the victory of light over
darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. The festival is a celebration of, the
Ramayana, particularly the return of Lord Rama, his wife Sita, and his brother Lakshmana
from a 14-year exile after defeating the demon king Ravana. It is a story that resonates with
the triumph of righteousness, perseverance, and the spirit of unity. The portrayal of this
story from our year 5 drama team was a 12 minute wonder today, as a parent as well as a
school leader, I am proud our children are taught the values of cultures, the values of
positivity and that of finding joy.
As I look back on my childhood, in the (grey) north of England, in the late 1980s, we were
not exposed to cultures which were not our own. We were not given the opportunity to
celebrate that which was not seen to be our own. The cultural diversity of the village (at that
time) in which I grew up was none existent. It was only when I started teaching in
International Schools in London where I had my heart opened to opportunities and
celebrations such as these. Amongst many, it is one of my favourite elements of living in
Malaysia; the development for myself and my family to a wealth of cultural opportunities
and experiences, enabling us to learn and appreciate a wide spectrum of traditions.
Regardless of individual beliefs or backgrounds, we are embraced for celebrating each
other, and are embraced for wanting to learn and embraced through finding common
ground and friendship.
At its core, Diwali celebrates the importance of family, togetherness, and looking forward
with hope and positivity. This festival emphasizes the significance of spending quality time
with loved ones, sharing happiness, and fostering an atmosphere of harmony and
prosperity. The traditional celebration of lighting oil lamps, exchanging gifts, and enjoying
sweets signifies the renewal of life, new beginnings, and the sharing of love and warmth. As
we embrace the spirit of Diwali, it is important to note, this festival not only links us to the
past but also lights the path to a more interconnected and culturally enriched future. For
my children, and yours, as a school, we strive towards a World of tolerance, kindness and
acceptance. We strive to instil the values of our mixed cultures to give a positive outlook
and one of care for those in our charge and our world.
May this Diwali fill our lives with boundless joy, prosperity, and the warmth of togetherness
as we celebrate the victory of light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance.
Wishing you all a joyous and illuminated Diwali.

We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
