Primary Education
Vital Years For
Development of Children
At Sri KDU International School Penang, students are at the heart of everything we do.
We cater for students from FS1 to Year 6, across the Primary School, ensuring that learning opportunities are suitably challenging, cross curricular and meaningful. We strive to foster a ‘love of learning’ in our students and equip them with skills and knowledge to realise their true potential. Teachers at Sri KDU International School Penang focus on the learning needs of the individual child, with mastery of essential basic skills being one of the school’s fundamental goals. We follow an enhanced form of the National Curriculum for England (NCE) which has been tailored for our international context.
Key Stage 1
Year 1 & 2 (Age 5 to 7)
After completing the Foundation Stage, children enter Key Stage 1 (Year 1 and Year 2). Effective transition between Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 is vital for the stability and development of the students. Learning opportunities are planned for children to access both continuous provision and the National Curriculum allowing them to apply their knowledge and skills in real life contexts, develop and form relationships, and encourage children’s enthusiasm for learning.
In Key Stage 1, each term children focus their learning around a ‘Big Question’ that integrates the core subjects of English, Maths and Science alongside Humanities, Art, Music, PE, ICT, PSHE and Modern Foreign Languages (MFL). It is through this cross-curricular approach that teachers skilfully provide opportunities for children to make connections between the subjects and begin to develop their problem-solving skills.
Key Stage 2
Year 3 to 6 (Age 7 to 11)
The Key Stage 2 curriculum, which is based on the National Curriculum for England is innovative, engaging and designed to meet the needs of all learners. The integrated studies model includes the core subjects of English, Maths and Science alongside Humanities, Art, Music, PE, ICT, PSHE and Modern Foreign Languages (MFL).
The students in Key Stage 2 continue their progress through the carefully planned curriculum themes to continue to push children’s learning and critical thinking to the maximum, focusing on the key 21st century skills of communication, problem solving and teamwork. The curriculum is both relevant to the students’ immediate and wider world, enhancing knowledge, skills and understanding pertinent to the needs of an international student. High expectations are set for all our children in every aspect of their school life to enable them to reach their potential.

We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
