Dear Parents and Guardians,
A shorter week this week as we move into the Deepavali holiday weekend. During
assembly on Monday, we launched our Deepavali celebrations with song and dances
bringing light into the community. As ever, it is always special when the school moves
into traditional dress mode and Monday was no exception, so thank you to all who
made the extra effort. The activities on Wednesday – the rangoli, and garland and
candy-making saw the whole school in their houses collaborating to the full. The
judging was very difficult!
Last weekend, on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th November the school was represented
at the PISF - the Private International School Fair, where on Sunday, we had some of
our students demonstrate their communication skills in a demonstration of public
speaking and debating. Well done to Natalie Gan Wei Xin and Grace Gan Wei En, Chee
Yung Meng, Thirulochanidevi a/p Selvarajan who kept the audience engaged through
their spoken word. Ong Ying Hui in the meantime wowed the crowd with her Diabolo
performance, which was made more difficult due to carpet flooring.
Parental Survey - It's that time again.
I would like to inform parents that the 1st of the 2 surveys conducted each year will
take place towards the end of November, and the date is being finalised at our Head
Office.
From last year's survey we have implemented a number of initiatives to further improve
the educational experience, namely:
· The rectification of the Wi-Fi issues;
· The swimming pool cover sheet;
· The introduction of the Looking for Learning Programme to further improve
classroom quality;
· The subscription of the RAZ Kids to support Primary reading and language
development;
· The roll out of the Engage portal - although there is still some work necessary for this;
· Relaunch of coffee mornings to give a platform to inform and answer parental questions;
· CCA/CCL signups through Engage.
· Improved home communications via Class Dojo in Primary;
· Introduction of the PASS, Progress Tests and the repeat of the CATs for some year groups to support student tracking and interventions.
If you have any concerns or questions that have not already been addressed, then
please do reach out to us before completing the survey. There is a great deal of
excellent work happening and the greatest measure for us is if your child/ren likes and
enjoys coming to school, so a rating of 9 would be appreciated because anything less is
actually classed as a negative response. We look forward to your responses. As a
school, we are aiming for a 70% response rate. Therefore, I do ask parents to support
us in this matter and also apologise in advance for the reminder email that we will send
to try to reach this target. If you have any questions regarding the survey, please do
contact the school.
The Engage App Follow up
In last week's newsletter I said I would follow up on the Engage app and I have
mentioned this in the Secondary Coffee Morning.
The reply from the XCL IT team is that “we do have access to Engage app, however the
team at Engage has discouraged us from using it as the feature set is incomplete
compared to the web portal. This was sometime in July 2023. Hence, we did not push
for adoption of the app."
I have asked the IT team to go back to Engage for an update and if the app now has
more functionality. I will update again in due course. Until then, the access is best on a
laptop or PC with the portal page bookmarked. The CCL and CCA selections will be
coming soon and done through the portal. We will alert parents through the usual
Outlook email as last time we had an issue with some parents in receiving the email.
Photography, Video and Social Media Parental Permission
The data collection has now ended with the vast majority of parents allowing the
school to include their child/ren in marketing materials. The option to remove your
child/ren remains open to parents. Should parents at any time not wish their child/ren
to be included in marketing materials, simply contact the school.
Introducing a new cafeteria operator - on 17th November: 1:45pm Presentation

After listening to parents and student concerns regarding the cafeteria food quality,
menu selection and pricing of the food offered, we will be moving to a new contractor

session on Friday 17th Nov starting at 1:45 pm and the tasting to take place at 2:30pm.
Delischool will present themselves, their menus, and meal plans, plus parent-selected
meals which will work moving forward. In order for them to prepare for the presentation
