Dear Students, Parents and Friends of SIKG,
Welcome back after what I hope was an enjoyable half-term break. We have just
another five short weeks to go before the next break and plenty to pack in. Here are
some updates that you may wish to be aware of.
Temporary Reception Relocation: Parent café / Lock lines
Work is underway to install a Parent Café in our reception area. This will provide hot
drinks, refreshments and snacks for parents who will be welcome throughout the
school day.
The project also includes the installation of lock lines. These are barriers which will
prevent unauthorised visitors from moving around the school. Although they will
unavoidably disrupt the open aesthetic of our school entrance, they are an essential
measure to ensure the children are safe, both from unauthorised persons and to
prevent our youngest children from leaving approved areas of the school.
The work on both the lock line and the parent café is expected to continue until early
December and the reception will be temporarily located in the school library until the
construction is complete.
Cafeteria inspection
You may well have read in the press that one of our sister schools experienced high
levels of illness before the break. Extensive testing has been done and no evidence of
food contamination at the school cafeteria has been found, either in samples taken
from children or in samples of the food itself.
Despite this, the rumours of food poisoning provide a good opportunity for us to share
the measures that are in place about food hygiene.
Anti-Bullying Week – Odd Socks Day
‘Anti-bullying week’ is an event used to raise awareness of the issue of bullying and
where to get help. As part of the week, we will invite children – and teachers – to come
to school with mismatched or ‘odd’ socks. The brighter and more flamboyant the better.
Those in our community who wear long trousers (Secondary boys and staff) will be
encouraged to roll up their trouser legs to show off their flashy foot fashion.
Open Day – Saturday, November 16th 10 am to 1 pm
Thank you to the student ambassadors who have volunteered to assist at our upcoming
open day. Open days are key to the growth of the school and with growth come
additional resources and opportunities for our students.
Please do let your friends from outside the school know about it, there will be sports
activities, early years activities and a design workshop for prospective students to take
part in.
Sports Day – Friday 6th December
I would like to share early notice of our upcoming Sports Day. Mr Hafiz and the
teachers have been working tirelessly to plan for the day and the students have been
preparing for many weeks.
The event will take place at Stadium Sultan Suleiman Klang and students will need to
be dropped at the venue for a 7 am start and collected at 2.30 pm.
The early start will allow for a full programme of events while also ensuring we avoid
the hottest part of the day.
Welcome Ms Hwa Li Li Mathematics / Additional Mathematics teacher
Ms Hwa Li Li joined our Mathematics Department on Monday, November the 4th and
we are delighted to have her here as part of the team. Hwa Li Li comes highly qualified
with a Master’s degree in Mathematics Education with Technology and a Bachelor's
Degree in Science. She has a wealth of international curriculum experience and joins
us from Beaconhouse Sri Inai International
School where she also worked as a Mathematics and Additional Mathematics Teacher.
Hwa Li Li has over ten years of experience at international and private schools and the
positive energy she has demonstrated at the interview and in her first week at the
school will further add to the strength of our team.
Whole School Awards 2023/24 - Friday, November 15th. 12.20 pm – 13.20 pm
Last Year’s Academic Awards presentation ceremony has long been scheduled for
Friday, November 15th.
Holding the previous year’s awards in this school year presents some challenges as
many of the award winners will naturally come from the previous Year 11 and so have
now left the school.
Having requested RSVPs from the parents of all prize winners understandably none of
the award winners from our now-graduated Year 11 are available to join the event. As
such, we will use the scheduled ceremony time as a slightly more low-key ‘Certificate
Assembly’ to issue certificates to children from last year’s Years 1-10 for outstanding
academic and other notable achievements.
Though our November ceremony will now not be the headline event initially planned. All
parents are still very welcome to join, especially those who have received notifications
that their children are to receive a certificate. Please note that the awards are based on
the assessment of the 2023-24 Academic Year.
Our main, high-profile award ceremony for the 2024-25 Academic Year, will be held in
June 2025 to allow all students to participate and for our oldest students to be present
after their IGCSE examinations to collect their awards at the end of the academic year.
