Dear Students, Parents and Friends of SIKG,
This week started with a wonderful assembly focused on the adventures of our Mount
Kinabalu explorers. We have dedicated the majority of this edition of the newsletter to
share and celebrate their exploits.
Structured education is important, but what we truly remember from our school days
are these wonderful voyages of discovery, the trips that provide us with learning beyond
the classroom, that stretch us beyond our known limitations and build the resilience
that will be the foundation for our future success. Congratulations to all the students
who participated, and we look forward to seeing many more take part in the future.
Well done to all our swimmers who showcased their resilience and sporting prowess
this week as they competed at the Kuala Lumpur Sports League Junior Swimming
Competition. Our Primary and Secondary teams each came back with a sack-full of
medals and we will be celebrating these achievements over the next week.
Parent Survey
Next week we will be sharing the link to our biannual parent survey. These surveys are
a key tool in gauging the progress of the school and guiding school improvement
planning. I know there may often be a feeling that an individual voice in a survey won’t
be heard but I assure you that we read every comment.
The key metric in the survey for measuring the success of the school is the Net
Promoter Score. It is linked to the question "How likely are you to recommend the
school to a friend or colleague?"
his is the question used to judge your overall satisfaction with the school. Scores of 9
or 10 make you a school ‘promoter’. Although somewhat counter-intuitive, scores of 7
or 8 make you neutral. Anything below a 7 puts you in the category of detractor.
Of course, we would love for everyone to be a promoter as that’s what will help our
school grow but we do understand that there are development issues still to be
addressed. If this is the case and you currently feel inclined to give a score below 7 –
please get in touch with us over the next week to see if your concern is an issue that
can easily be resolved.
The survey is useful but anonymous, so direct contact with us over your concerns
allows matters to be resolved to your satisfaction more quickly.
Parent Café
We are on track to open our parent café for the start of December.
GL Pupil Attitude to School and Self (PASS) Survey
We will run our PASS survey for students from Year 1 to 11 next week. The purpose of
the survey is to give us a wide data set on our students' thoughts about school and
their well-being. Please note, that PASS is not a test and there are no right or wrong
answers. In keeping with our school's aim to have safe, happy and successful children,
the results of this 20-minute survey allow us to tweak our provision to ensure that all
students' wellbeing is cared for and so that we can optimise academic and holistic
outcomes.
Sports Day – Friday, 6th December
A reminder of upcoming Sports Day. The event will take place at Stadium Sultan
Suleiman Klang and students will need to be at the venue for a 7 am start and be
collected latest at 2.30 pm. Parents are warmly encouraged to attend, if possible.
Whole School Parent-Teacher Conference Day (PTCs) – Tuesday, 10th December
Please save the date. This will be a whole day opportunity for parents to come to
school with their children to discuss their child’s term 1 progress.
Primary meetings with class teachers will be by appointment to avoid long waiting
times for parents. Class teachers will contact parents directly to arrange appointments.
Secondary and Primary specialist meetings will take place throughout the day in the
Multi-Purpose Hall on a drop-in basis as was the norm established last year.
Whole School Christmas Celebration
We intend to replicate the success of our Deepavali celebration with our end-of-term
Christmas Concert. The concert will be held from 12 noon to 1.20 pm on Friday,
December 13th. We would love to see family members present to join in the
celebration.
Regards,
Rhys Thomas,
Campus Principal
