Dear Students, Parents and Friends of SIKG,
The Primary School students have been very focused this week on their End-of-
Year assessments and in particular their Granada Learning (GL) Progress Tests
(PT). The tests are a great way for us to track the students’ progress from year to
year and to identify and address any gaps in their learning. GL PT Parent reports
will be shared by the end of the school year. Well done to all the children who
worked so hard during the tests and who showed their excellent attitudes to
learning. Secondary students have their turn this coming week, but the Year 10s
are already in action this week with their End-of-Year examinations, and it will
carry on to the next week. Good luck to all!
Parent Survey
The Term 3 Parent Survey will shortly be shared with all families and be open from
the June 1st to June 15th. The overall rating score is based on the widely used Net
Promoter Score method. Scores of 9 and 10 will show your support for the
progress of the school since the last survey in November. Scores of 7 & 8 are
considered neutral and a score of 6 or below shows any dissatisfaction. We would
love to see many more positive scores this time but if you are concerned about
something, there’s no need to wait for the survey- please contact any of the Senior
Leadership Team or email SIKG general enquiries at sikg@srikdu.edu.my, and we
will do our utmost to resolve your concern.
Inclusion Centre
Work begins this week to renovate and repurpose the current administrative
offices on Level 1 as the school’s new Inclusion Centre. The centre will be a
specialist centre for Primary School aged (5-11 years) autistic children who need
support to access mainstream education. The centre’s objective is to develop the
children’s readiness for integration to the mainstream. Children will have a wide
range of personal strengths which includes high academic performance, and these
will be identified in their Individual Education Plans. We will spend the first two
weeks of next year evaluating the needs of the children at the centre and their
preparedness to access some mainstream classes where appropriate. New
enrolment to the centre is currently paused with an active waiting list. The
capacity of the centre is currently capped at 20 children to maintain appropriate
ratios.
With the establishment of the centre comes many benefits for the wider school
community. Chief amongst these is the appointment of a school-wide Special
Educational Needs Coordinator who will oversee the support of children with
additional needs, including Exceptional Learning Potential (previously called
‘Gifted and Talented’), across the school. We are in the process of finalising this
appointment and will share more information soon.
With the work starting to create the Inclusion Centre the school’s administrative
office, including our conference facilities, moves to Level 2 with immediate effect.
The school Reception and Parent Coffee Shop are unaffected and remain on Level
1.
