Dear Students, Parents and Friends of SIKG,
Welcome back to our community after the Chinese New Year celebrations — we hope everyone enjoyed a restful break with family and friends and returned refreshed for the weeks ahead. This week has seen the school quickly regain its rhythm, with a strong focus on assessment, especially in the Secondary school. We were also pleased to continue engaging with families through parent meetings, including a Meet the Leadership session with the new Secondary School Leadership Team and a productive round table discussion on Excellence Beyond the Curriculum with our new Head of CCA & ECA, Mr. Copter Brunt.
Congratulations to the students who represented the school in our midweek badminton fixture, showing their commitment to teamwork and participation beyond the classroom. A special mention for our Under 18 Girls’ team, who finished 2nd overall despite competing against older athletes.
Frustratingly, this week has also presented an unexpected challenge with our newly appointed librarian opting not to join us for personal reasons on the expected start day on Monday. We have moved to appoint a full-time temporary librarian to take us through to Raya, while our full-time replacement has also verbally accepted the role from Term 3. More will follow once the contract is signed.
Finally, thank you to all students and parents who have been patient and understanding with the activation of the new locked lines. We appreciate that some minor inconveniences are caused by restricting movement around the campus, but the increased security and safety offered for all children is always the priority. The presence of the locked line has the following impact on procedures, which parents need to be aware of:
Late Arrival Procedure
Our school start time continues to be from 8.45 until 9am. While these 15-minutes per day are not part of the academic curriculum, it is an important part of our routine as class teachers and form tutors ensure students are registered and prepared for the day ahead.
Students arriving after 8.45 are asked to complete a late arrival form (parents may do this for younger students) at our guard desk. These forms are then passed to our administrative team by our guards to update registers. Students can then move directly to class via the cafeteria gate entrance which will be opened by the guards. Year 1 & 2 students who arrive late will be collected from the guard station by a member of staff at 9 am.
Early Departure Procedure
Parents are asked to notify the school in advance (sikg@srikdu.edu.my) if there is a need for a pre-scheduled early pick up on any school day e.g. for a doctor’s appointment. With prior notification, the relevant leadership team (Primary or Secondary) will provide the student with a signed early departure slip which will be handed by the student to the guard.
In the event that early release is required but no notification has reached the school, the school will endeavour to contact the parents. Please note that this is likely to cause a delay in the release of the child as school leaders may be otherwise occupied at the desired exit time.
World Book Day – March 5th
World Book Day is on Thursday, March 5th- children of all ages across the world (including SIKG Primary and Secondary!) are encouraged to attend school dressed as their favourite recognisable book character. We look forward to seeing the wide array of characters on show at our character parade at 9 am.
Students are reminded to be respectful in their choice of costumes. Only age-appropriate, recognisable character costumes are permitted, i.e. no jeans and t-shirts, football shirts, short skirts etc. Yes, we know these do feature in books, but the spirit of the day requires us to be in ‘fancy dress’. Students who do not wish to take part may wear their school uniform as usual.
Regards,
Rhys Thomas,
Campus Principal
