Academic English Pathway
The Academic English Pathway helps students develop the English language skills needed for academic success. Students continue learning alongside their peers while receiving personalised English language development tailored to their needs. This approach combines targeted language support with academic integration, enabling students to participate confidently in learning while building increasing independence and readiness for success.
Delivered by specialist English language teachers, the pathway ensures students remain connected to the curriculum, their peers and the wider school community while developing the language skills needed to thrive academically.
Progressing Through the Pathway
As students develop their English, they engage more confidently in learning and build greater independence over time.
The Academic English Pathway provides the right level of support at each stage of a student's development, helping them build the language skills needed for academic success while remaining actively engaged in school life.
From Primary to Secondary, students continue to receive personalised support that reflects their English development, learning needs and growing readiness for independence.
Transition from Primary to Secondary
The Academic English Pathway provides continuity as students move from Year 6 to Year 7. Each student’s next step is informed by English proficiency, academic readiness and growing independence.
Beginner
Students at CEFR A1 will join the one-term Academic English Pathway Introductory Programme to strengthen their academic English before progressing into the standard Secondary Academic English Pathway programme.
Elementary
Students at CEFR A2 and above will transition directly into the Secondary Academic English Pathway programme.
Intermediate
Students who achieve CEFR at the end of Primary will graduate from the Academic English Pathway programme and transition directly into the mainstream Secondary curriculum.
