Dear Students, Parents and Friends of SIKG,
Happy Mother’s Day to all our hard-working and much-loved mums. You will rarely get
thanked for doing the most difficult job in the world but to your children, you are the
centre of their universe. Put your feet up and have a great day on Sunday! And a Happy
Wesak Day for all Buddhists who are celebrating this coming Monday as well - wishing
you peace and harmony on this day of reflection and blessings.
The highlights of the week at school were house-oriented. Our student-organised
Charity 3K Walk was a heartwarming display of house unity, as students aged 3 to 15
came together to hike around the school grounds. Their collective effort raised an
incredible RM11,505, far surpassing our initial target of RM4,000! Each house supported
a meaningful cause: Dragon (Green) raised RM4,040 for Food Bank Malaysia, Phoenix
(Red) collected RM2,090 for SPCA, Kraken (Blue) gathered RM2,433 for Rumah Kasih,
and Griffin (Yellow) raised RM2,942 for Dignity for Children Foundation. I am hugely
proud of our Head Girl, Petrina and Head Boy, Alex for organising the event as well as
everyone who raised the money for great causes.
Our other big house event this week was led by the ever-committed Mr Gobi as
students pitted their intellectual wits against their house foes in the inter-house general
knowledge competition. Congratulations to all participants and especially to Phoenix
and Kraken for taking first place! See below for full results and team details.
Further congratulations must go to Mr Narish who was this week awarded, the XCL
Future-Ready Educator award for empowering students with future-ready skills in AI,
coding, and entrepreneurship through pioneering initiatives like the Digital Leadership
Programme.
I would like to wish everyone a restful long weekend – don’t forget- no school on
Monday!
Year 6 into 7 transition meeting and tour
Year 6 parents are invited to the school on Wednesday at 9 am for a brief talk about
how we manage the movement from Year 6 to 7 at SIKG. The event will also be an
opportunity for the current Year 6 parents to join a tour of the facilities and classrooms
used by Secondary school students. Please meet at the parent coffee shop ahead of a 9
am start, where you will be met by Mr. Narish.
Teacher’s Day – Friday, May 16th
A reminder that next Friday is Malaysia Teacher’s Day. The school staff welfare
committee has planned a special bowling event to thank the teachers but please don’t
underestimate the power of parental gratitude. If you have had a good experience with
any of our teaching team this year -I hope you have had many- I would encourage you
to drop a short note to email to the teacher to let them know they are valued.
Regards,
Rhys Thomas,
Campus Principal.
