Dear Families,
October 10th this year marked National Mental Health Awareness day. Mental health is obviously a very wide topic but one that I find immensely interesting and a topic I read up on regularly, specifically in relation to child development. I recently read an article which I found very relevant, especially as we are about to take a break for half term.
The concept of “family” has changed a lot over the years and there are now different types of families and different parenting styles. However, one thing is certain, whatever the term “family” may mean to you, it is of utmost importance in your child’s life.
The family in which your child grows up has a great influence on how he or she handles relationships, masters situations, and learns to live life. We daily nurture them to learn these valuable life skills to fulfil the vision of “safe, happy and successful” students but parents need to schedule family time into their lives, which can be a big challenge given our busy work loads.
We often think that the time we spend with our children is all about quantity, when it is the quality of time that we need to give to our family and our children. For children, how much time you spend with them is less important than how you spend your time with them.
Today we were fortunate enough to have our Secondary Students give an invaluable insight at the coffee morning on how to ensure parents can provide the 'quality time' during challenging times in the academic year such as exams.
According to studies, healthy families take time to talk and listen to each other, accept differences, show affection and encouragement, share tasks and decisions, stay in touch, and make time for each other.
Ultimately, we want all our families to be Safe, Happy and Successful. As our Secondary students stressed to parents today, quality time, caring about learning and emotional support, are all pathways to ensuring this vision is fulfilled.
That said I wish all of you a restful break and we look forward to seeing you back for the second half of term one.
Warm regards,
On behalf of the leadership team,
Katherine Beadle
Head of Secondary
We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
