“I love teaching! School should be a place of learning and fun, and building peer relationships.”
Having entered the field of Education after having two children, it has been a wonderful journey of continuous learning that Nicola doesn't want to stop.
She commenced her Montessori Training (0-7) with MCI (Montessori Centre International, London). Afterwards, she worked in a Prep school in Stratford Upon Avon, collaborating with the EYFS curriculum and employing 'planning in the moment,' which enables children to explore their educational environment at their own pace.
Continuing her educational journey, Nicola and her family relocated to Hong Kong, where she served as a Class Teacher in an International Montessori and IB school. Later, she moved to a British International school, returning to the EYFS and Year 1 classroom. During this time, she pursued her Master's in Education, focusing on International Education, Outdoor Learning, Wellbeing, and Phonics, successfully completing it in August 2021.
Having a particular interest in Wellbeing, she continued to acquire certificates and attend courses from Warwick University, and ‘Mind Your Health’ focusing on Safeguarding and Wellbeing with children. In the classroom, a child’s wellbeing is imperative to their learning, and a positive learning environment can make a significant difference to the way they perceive education and learn in the future.
Due to pandemic, Nicola and her family returned to England. She set aside classroom teaching and assumed the role of Pastoral Lead in a large, central England Primary School. It was a humbling experience that allowed her to conduct small group interventions and engage with the broader community around the school.
As a family, they had a desire to return to Asia, and Malaysia seemed like the obvious destination, having previously lived there. Sri KDU Subang Jaya offered the opportunity to integrate all her learning and continue her teaching journey in the classroom with FS2, now as Head of Year. Phonics, wellbeing and happiness, are focuses of hers as a teacher, as she sees these are particularly interchangeable across the curriculum.

We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
