Dear Parents
As we ‘Build our Future Leaders’ at Sri KDU Subang Jaya, the American presidential election
has offered a timely example of leadership in action on the global stage. Figures like
Donald Trump and Kamala Harris bring different perspectives on leadership, resilience, and
public service. Watching how they campaign, communicate, and make decisions provides,
particularly our older students, with a window into real-world leadership challenges, such as
managing public opinion, making tough decisions, and serving a diverse community.
Our students, from the ROBINS Leadership Programme in Primary to the Future Leaders
Programme in the Secondary School, can gain valuable insights by observing these leaders
and asking questions related to our promises about what makes an effective leader.
- Are the leaders ‘kind and caring’?
- Are they ‘innovative’ with solutions to global issues?
- Do they demonstrate strong ‘character’?
- What role does ‘excellence’ in terms of standards play in leadership?
- How do they measure ‘progress’ when they are in office?
Whilst these questions might appear challenging, enhancing critical thinking in these areas
can really help students develop a deeper understanding of leadership, echoing our
Building Future Leaders motto. Our Head Boy, Head Girl, and Student Council members can
also look to global leaders like Trump and Harris as they navigate their own roles. Whatever
your opinion is of Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, each of these prominent figures brings
a unique perspective on what it means to lead.
Donald Trump, for example, once said, "
Without passion, you don’t have energy; without
energy, you have nothing." His words remind us of the importance of commitment and
energy in leadership—qualities that we encourage in our student leaders as they tackle
their responsibilities with enthusiasm and dedication. Trump’s approach to decision-
making, driven by an assertive and confident leadership style, prompts our students to
consider the importance of being decisive and passionate in their goals.
Kamala Harris, on the other hand, emphasises empathy and inclusivity as foundational
elements of leadership, famously stating, "
Our unity is our strength, and diversity is our
power." For our students, this message highlights the importance of valuing diverse
perspectives and understanding the impact their decisions can have on everyone in their
school community. Harris’s commitment to fostering a sense of unity and mutual respect
aligns perfectly with the leadership values we promote within our school.
Our student leaders—Head Boy, Head Girl, ‘Future Leaders’ and the Student Council
members—will encounter similar challenges on a smaller scale, such as making decisions
that benefit their peers and balancing various viewpoints. They are encouraged through our
programmes to bring energy to their roles and to see strength in diversity, applying these
real-world insights as they develop their own leadership skills.
Similarly, our staff leadership course,
Leadership 201, encourages educators to think
critically and lead by example, showing that every leader, whether in the classroom or on a
presidential stage, has a responsibility to their community. Just as Trump and Harris have
committed to addressing the needs and concerns of their diverse constituents, our
educators learn the importance of thoughtful, inclusive leadership that empowers every
student. In this way, Sri KDU Subang Jaya continues to build a foundation for leaders who
are compassionate, resilient, and capable of making meaningful contributions—now and in
the future.
In summary, at Sri KDU Subang Jaya, our guiding motto,
Building Future Leaders, is more
than a phrase—it’s a commitment to developing leadership. Every aspect of our school
experience is crafted to inspire and nurture the qualities that make great leaders, from
courage and empathy to a passion for learning and a dedication to serving others.
Have a lovely weekend,
David Wilcock,
Vice Principal & Head of Primary,
On behalf of the Senior Leadership Team
SAFE, HAPPY AND SUCCESSFUL
We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
