Dear Parents,
Meet the Teacher afternoons this week provided parents with valuable face-to-face time
with class teachers, as well as an opportunity to get clarity on the many aspects of school
life, from uniforms to apps to timetables to CCA's and so on and so on. Schools are
complex organisations, hence the large amount of information needed in the initial stages
of the year to support the school community in navigating this complexity. Afternoons
such as these are fundamental in ensuring we have a mutual understanding of the policies,
practices and procedures that underpin Sri KDU's promises to parents. Can you name all
five promises yet? Equally by understanding weekly learning updates, teaching approaches
and classroom routines, we hope Sri KDU parents are empowered to support learning at
home—an essential ingredient in preparing students for success and, of course, for 'Top
Academic Outcomes'. As Dr Joyce Epstein, a leading researcher in family-school
partnerships, reminds us, “When schools, families, and community groups work together to
support learning, children tend to do better in school and in life.”
Our Coffee Mornings and upcoming Curriculum Workshops add another layer to this
partnership. The growing attendance seen at our first two Coffee Mornings of the year
'Meet the SLT' and 'Online Safety' highlights the value that many of our parents' place on
being part of a school community where partnership and shared learning enrich the lives of
our students. Upcoming languages workshops are designed to help families understand the
“why” behind the curriculum so they can better nurture curiosity, resilience, and
independence at home—skills we see as cornerstones of future-proof preparation. John
Hattie, whose research on learning is widely respected, once noted that “The home is the
most powerful place of learning,” and our workshops aim to help parents maximise that
influence.
On Tuesday 9th September, we begin 'New' Parent School Tours to ensure that they
immediately feel part of our thriving community. Transitioning into a new school
environment can be daunting, but these personal connections make the journey smoother
and ensure that every child—and their family—feels seen and supported from the start. We
begin on Tuesday with new parent tours for EYFS to Year 3 in Primary and KS4 families in
Secondary
Looking ahead, our Malaysia Day Celebrations promise to be a highlight of the term.
More than a cultural event, it is a chance for our community to come together in
appreciation of the values of unity, diversity, and respect. Celebrating national identity
alongside global mindedness prepares our young people to embrace both their roots and
their roles as future citizens of the world. As Nelson Mandela wisely said, “Education is the
most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” and events like this remind
us that we are preparing our students not only for academic success but for meaningful
participation in society.
Together, these events do more than fill the school calendar. They weave a fabric of trust,
belonging, and collaboration—qualities that future-proof our children’s education. By
engaging parents as partners, we strengthen not only academic outcomes but also the
sense of community that makes our school a place where every child can be safe, happy
and successful.
Have a lovely long weekend,
Mr David Wilcock,
Vice Principal and Head of Primary,
On behalf of the Senior Leadership Team
SAFE, HAPPY AND SUCCESSFUL
We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
