Dear Parents,
Having now lived in Malaysia for nearly 8 years, every year I am always impressed by the
passion and patriotism that is instilled in the Malaysian culture. Each year the country takes
time to celebrate its identity and how it came to be the amazing country that it is today.
Malaysia Day, celebrated on September 16th, commemorates the historic moment in 1963
when Sabah, Sarawak, and Singapore joined Malaya to form Malaysia. The day remains a
proud symbol of unity and resilience for the nation. It is a celebration of Malaysia’s cultural
identity, where diverse traditions, faiths, and languages coexist harmoniously. Across the
country, Malaysians mark the occasion with parades, cultural performances, exhibitions, and
community gatherings that highlight the rich heritage of every region.
Within the Sri KDU community, Malaysia Day offers many meaningful lessons and
opportunities to celebrate this. It demonstrates the value of unity in diversity; how people
of different backgrounds can live, learn, and grow together.
We have been treated to an array of activities and performances this week that has taught
the wonderful traditions of Malaysia. Malaysian games such as the Congkak, as well as
Hawker food stall serving delicious Malaysian cuisine and snacks. Personally favourite will
always be satay! Many of you will have noticed in Reception some excellent examples of
students’ work on the theme ‘Expressions of Malaysia’, including historic figures in
Malaysian history, models of a traditional kampung home, and beautiful artwork of
Peranakan tiles. The exhibition speaks volumes of our students’ work on their
understanding in the identify of this great country.
Not only have we been busy with Malaysia Day celebrations, but our students have also
been very busy in applying and electing candidates for student leadership. Last week was
the official launch of student leadership positions: House Captains, Student Council, and
Prefects. Applications were submitted, followed with either voting or interviews that will be
taking place next week. Candidates for Head Boy and Head Girl delivered convincing
speeches on their objectives and passions for the school and how they will help our
community. Students and staff had the opportunity to vote for their choice of Head Girl
and Head Boy; it was a very close call!
In addition to this, a big congratulations to our newly elected Student Council of 2025. One
of their first tasks will be to review the feedback from our recent Student Voice that was
shared this week in secondary. Based on feedback shared so far, we will action the
introduction of another food counter to serve food which will help make lines during break
and lunch even faster. Student Council will also read through other great suggestions from
secondary, such as CCAs and how to continue encouraging our community to keep the
toilets clean.
On behalf of SLT, Selamat Hari Malaysia!
Have a lovely long weekend,
Ms Clare Lama,
Deputy Head of Secondary.
SAFE, HAPPY AND SUCCESSFUL
We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
