Dear Parents,
Our Sri KDU school mission, including the three key words of ‘Safe, Happy and Successful’ is
an integral part of school life day to day. To ensure a safe and happy environment, we need
to prioritise that all students are feeling secure and valued at Sri KDU. This security does not
just happen. As a school, we need to be always upskilling ourselves in the very best
pastoral practice. This week, our entire teaching staff – from Early Years through to
Secondary – came together for a whole-school professional development session on
Positive Behaviour for Learning. The session recognised that the landscape of student
behaviour has changed dramatically over time. Today’s learners grow up in a fast-paced
world shaped by technology, global mobility, social media, and a wide range of lifestyle
influences. For many of our students, experiences in international education also bring
unique cultural perspectives, expectations, and social dynamics that can affect how they
interact, communicate, and manage emotions.
Our ongoing focus is to deepen understanding of how to guide, support, and inspire
positive behaviour in ways that respond to these new realities while staying true to our
school’s promise around Welfare and Safeguarding. This week, staff engaged in
professional development on Positive Behaviour, with Miss Lama, Deputy Head of
Secondary, and Miss Bolton, Head of English Language Learning, leading a session on
behaviour management, that emphasised positive behaviour and restorative practice.
For example, one strategy already embedded across the school is the ‘W.A.R.M’ method
designed to get students to reflect on their behaviour and move ahead positively:
- W – What happened? (Tell the story)
- A – Who do you think has been Affected? (Explore the harm)
- R – What do we need to do to put things right? (Repair the harm)
- M – How do we make sure this doesn’t happen again? (Move forward)
Teachers worked in mixed-phase groups, allowing Primary and Secondary colleagues to
share strategies that have proven effective in their settings. This cross-phase collaboration
sparked rich discussion – early years teachers highlighted the importance of consistent
routines and visual cues, while secondary staff shared approaches to managing digital
distractions, peer pressure, and emotional wellbeing in adolescence.
Participants also worked through a series of behavioural scenarios based on real
classroom situations. These case studies challenged staff to apply the W.A.R.M. principles,
reflect on the root causes of student actions, and identify supportive interventions that
build long-term behavioural growth. The discussions revealed a strong sense of collective
purpose and a shared belief that positive behaviour starts with strong relationships and
mutual trust.
By the end of the session, staff expressed renewed confidence in their ability to foster calm,
respectful, and engaging learning environments. The shared commitment to a unified
approach across all phases will ensure consistency for our students, helping them to thrive
academically, socially, and emotionally.
As our world continues to evolve, we remain committed to adapting our practices and
working together to ensure that our students not only learn well but also live well — with
safety, happiness and ultimately, success, at the heart of everything we do at Sri KDU.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mr David Wilcock,
Vice Principal & Head of Primary,

SAFE, HAPPY AND SUCCESSFUL
We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
