Dear Parents
We are delighted to share that Sri KDU Subang Jaya was recently nominated for the British
Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) K12 Sustainability Award 2025. This nomination
places us amongst a select group of schools recognised for their innovation, dedication,
and measurable impact in driving sustainability within Malaysia’s education landscape.
A small delegation from our Sustainability Team represented the school at the prestigious
BMCC Business Excellence Awards Dinner yesterday evening. Although we did not take
home the award this year, the honour of being shortlisted is a tremendous achievement for
our entire community. It affirms that our sustainability initiatives are not only meaningful
within our school walls but are also respected nationally by key industry and environmental
leaders.
Most importantly, this recognition strengthens our commitment to achieving the Eco-
Schools Green Flag Award—the highest international accreditation for whole-school
sustainability. Our students and staff remain energised and determined to continue the
work we have started.
Our future proof preparation includes creating a ‘Greener’ Infrastructure based on building
‘Sustainable Habits Through Design’. Therefore, our approach to sustainability at Sri KDU
Subang Jaya is now built into our campus environment and daily routines through several
initiatives and projects. Our campus continues to benefit from solar panel installations that
significantly reduce reliance on traditional electricity sources. The panels contribute
renewable energy to our daily operations and serve as a living laboratory for students
studying energy consumption, climate change, and responsible innovation. Our rainwater
harvesting system is another key step towards responsible resource use. Captured rainwater
supports irrigation, reduces overall water consumption, and provides students with a
practical example of water cycle management. As part of their project-based learning,
pupils from Upper Primary and Secondary have conducted experiments and audits
regarding water usage, helping them understand the value and vulnerability of this
essential resource.
We are proud of our expanding campus-wide recycling programme, which includes
segregation bins for paper, plastic, and general waste. These initiatives empower students
to take ownership of their environment and strengthen lifelong habits of responsible
consumption. Our approach to sustainability goes far beyond infrastructure—it lives in our
curriculum, inquiry learning projects, and community action. Sri KDU Subang Jaya is deeply
aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), using them to
drive meaningful learning across subjects and year groups. Our Project-Based Learning
(PBL) is connected to Real-World Issues and students engage in hands-on projects such as:
Food waste audits in the cafeteria, analysing patterns using data science and proposing
solutions; Biodiversity mapping of our school grounds to understand ecosystems and
habitat needs; Sustainable product design challenges in Design & Technology, encouraging
creativity using recycled materials; and Community outreach projects promoting zero-waste
lifestyles with aspects such as composting and recycling uniforms and books.
Our whole school intention is to promote sustainability as a mindset, a responsibility, and a
call to action.
Although we did not secure the BMCC K12 Sustainability Award this year, the nomination
alone is a testament to the hard work of our students, teachers, parents, and operational
teams. It confirms that we are on the way to achieving the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award
via the expansion of our renewable energy capacity, increasing student leadership roles in
sustainability, strengthening links with environmental organisations and local businesses,
and hosting more community workshops to extend impact beyond the school gates.
Sustainability is, of course, a community effort and every positive step we take is made
possible because our students, staff, and families work together with shared purpose. Thank
you for supporting recycling efforts, attending events, engaging with our learning
showcases and hopefully setting the sustainable habits at home that our young people
learn from!
Safe. Happy. Successful. Sustainable.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mr David Wilcock
Vice Principal and Head of Primary,
On behalf of the Senior Leadership Team.
We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
