Dear Parents,
As parents, although much about schools and education can appear to be the same as the
institutions that we recognize from our own childhood, we can also appreciate significant
shifts that have taken place. These changes feel as though they have increased in speed
recently as technology continues to move at a vociferous pace. Having dealt with the
explosion of the internet; schools, teachers, parents and students are now faced with the
rapid roll-out of artificial intelligence as a part of our everyday lives. As ever, for dinosaurs
like me, this requires a steep learning curve and I know that my younger colleagues and
students are already a million years ahead of me – but - I am willing to learn.
I would like to pay tribute to Ms. Ardisana in the primary school who has been active in
helping teachers to incorporate AI into their lessons and the learning experience of
students at Sri KDU Subang Jaya. We have been given an insight into a number of useful
tools which we use to help students to explore their own curiosities and questions around
our Integrated Studies curriculum.
As ever, any technology use in education comes with the need to balance out how, when
and why artificial intelligence is being used. It is vital that teachers and staff are well-trained
and familiar with the AI sites that we are asking children to use. There has been much
negative coverage in the media of AI in education and it is misperceived as making student
lazier or doing things for the students but, in my experience here at Sri KDU Subang Jaya, I
have seen students engaging with AI in a productive and resourceful manner where
students have been able to utilize the processing power of technology in a safe
environment to enhance and refine their own understanding of topics that we have covered
under our Big Picture Questions. I look forward to seeing parents at our next Unit
Showcases, where you can see how the power of artificial intelligence has helped the
students to make sense of the rapidly developing world around us as they develop their
own answers to complex questions as part of our enquiry cycle.
On behalf of all of us at Sri KDU Subang Jaya, I encourage you to see how AI can help you
this weekend - and to make sure you approach technology with a balanced perspective.
Please be reminded that Sri KDU Subang Jaya will be closed on Tuesday, 11th February in
observance of Thaipusam. We will resume school as usual on Wednesday, 12th February.
Have a lovely weekend,
Simon Greenhalgh
Deputy Head of Primary,
On behalf of the Senior Leadership Team.
SAFE, HAPPY AND SUCCESSFUL
We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
