Dear Parents and Families,,
Today we held the first meeting of our School Advisory Board (SAB) for this academic
year. It was a pleasure to welcome Frederick, and Joy to the board, joining Eliza, Fang
Jay and Suzie as our parent representatives. Thank you to Atilla for joining online and
we look forward to seeing YC in future meetings. Parent voice is an important part of
how we continue to develop the school, and the SAB gives us another structured
opportunity to listen, challenge our thinking and ensure that the experiences of our
families inform our priorities. I am grateful to all of our members for giving their time
and perspectives to support the school.
A number of areas raised today can be immediately addressed so I thought I would take
the opportunity to use my newsletter introduction to do this. Firstly, please continue to
let us know if your child has an illness which may be infectious, in accordance with our
illness guidelines. This allows us to monitor patterns across the school and
communicate appropriately where necessary. As you are aware, we have had cases of
Influenza in the building and it is important parents keep us updated if we need to be
aware of infections in school. We also received a number of questions regarding our
management of haze from one of our representatives. As set out in our policy, the API
figure we use is a 24-hour average reading taken from the designated and directed
monitoring website. We recognise that families have further questions about how this
translates into decisions around PE, CCAs, break times and other activities, and more
specifically about children with asthema and we will provide a more detailed
explanation in next week's newsletter. We also received questions regarding English
support and pathways at IGCSE. A parent workshop is planned for this coming week,
and I would encourage families who would like to understand this area in greater detail
to attend. It will provide an opportunity to explain our approach, the different
pathways available to students and how we support individual needs as students
progress through these key examinations.
In addition to our SAB this week to capture parent voice, the PE team have launched a
parent survey which you should have received in an email. I would like to thank
parents in advance for the constructive feedback being shared with our PE team. Our
new Head of PE, Tom, has been very clear about the approach he wants the department
to take: reviewing feedback carefully, recognising what is working well and identifying
where we can improve. His ambition is to ensure that initiatives have a direct impact
on students while managing a department where collaboration allows them to
continually raise expectations.
One of the priorities within our Education Improvement Plan this year is to ensure
that students experience both opportunity and appropriate challenge. I am seeing this
increasingly clearly during my time in classrooms and through our learning walks. It
remains one of the privileges of my role to be regularly in and out of lessons and to see
our students learning, questioning, creating and taking greater responsibility for
themselves. A particular highlight for me this week was listening to our Year 6 House
Captain speeches. The confidence, preparation and willingness of students to put
themselves forward was a very simple but powerful example of leadership in action.
Not every child will ultimately receive a position, but every child who stood in front of
their peers, articulated what they could contribute and had the courage to participate
gained something valuable from the experience - developing key leadership skills under
our new MyLeader Framework.
Thank you to the parents who attended our cultural workshop this morning, it is such
a pleasure to see more and more parents in the building each week.
Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs Cassie Fleming,
Principal,
On behalf of the Senior Leadership Team.
SAFE, HAPPY AND SUCCESSFUL
My son loves Sri KDU International School Subang Jaya. He enjoys good quality teachers who build his self-confidence and motivation. He is immersed in daily exchange of best practices with his fellow classmates. His learning is not confined to the classroom as lessons include physical education where various types of sports are available. Above all, his friends and classmates here are able to collaborate positively to bring out the best in one another.
We cannot possibly itemise every single reason he loves it here but this school is now his second home – and that is saying a lot!
