Dear Parents and Families,
It is lovely to look back on how much we have shared during this busy first half term at
Sri KDU. From welcoming new families and starting CCAs to Kindness Week and our
Malaysia Day Assembly, there have been many opportunities for children, staff and
parents to come together. Our community workshops have been particular highlights,
bringing families together to share their cultures and traditions.
It has been a pleasure to welcome so many parents to our coffee mornings, classroom
tours and workshops. Our Mandarin, Bahasa and French in Action visits have given
families a closer look at learning in the classroom. Sessions on safeguarding, Maths,
ELLA, CAT4 and understanding school reports have also given us valuable time to
answer questions and talk together about supporting your children.
A special thank you to all our parents for your involvement throughout this half term.
Whether you have joined an assembly or community workshop, attended a coffee
morning, shared your views through a survey or offered daily encouragement from
home, you have played an important part in school life. We appreciate your kindness,
your support and the pride you share in our children and our school.
As we reach the half-term break, our first reports offer a chance to reflect on how your
child’s year has begun. This year, you will receive two reports in Term 1, two in Term 2
and one in Term 3. The reports will include different information at different points in
the year, helping you follow your child’s learning more closely. We will also share grade
descriptors, explaining what students need to demonstrate for each grade.
When you open a report, it is natural to look at the grades first. Please also take time to
talk with your child about their Attitude to Learning: how they approach their work,
take part in lessons, respond to challenges and use their teacher’s advice.
Children benefit most from their teacher’s feedback when they understand the advice
and have opportunities to use it. At home, you can support this through a simple,
encouraging conversation. Start by asking, “What are you proud of this half term?”
Then ask, “What would you like to get better at?” Together, choose one small step to
work on. “Get better at Maths” can feel overwhelming, whereas “Practise the times
tables I find tricky” gives your child something clear and manageable to do.
You do not need to have all the answers. If your child is unsure what to work on, or you
have questions about their report, please contact their teacher. We are always happy to
talk about your child’s learning and agree on how best to support them.
It is also helpful to remember that staying at the same grade still shows progress. As
the year moves on, children learn new content and tackle more challenging tasks. For
example, continuing to meet expectations means keeping up with this new learning,
rather than simply repeating what they could already do. Progress may also show in
completing work with less help, explaining ideas more clearly or applying new skills.
These are achievements worth recognising and celebrating.
I hope the break brings time to rest, enjoy being together and celebrate all that your
children have achieved so far.
Have a lovely half-term break.

SAFE, HAPPY AND SUCCESSFUL
My son loves Sri KDU International School Subang Jaya. He enjoys good quality teachers who build his self-confidence and motivation. He is immersed in daily exchange of best practices with his fellow classmates. His learning is not confined to the classroom as lessons include physical education where various types of sports are available. Above all, his friends and classmates here are able to collaborate positively to bring out the best in one another.
We cannot possibly itemise every single reason he loves it here but this school is now his second home – and that is saying a lot!
