Dear Students, Parents and Friends of SIKG,
This week around our usual timetabled learning and teaching activities, we have
enjoyed our English Week, Public Speaking Competition, and a visit from Century to
showcase their AI tools for students.
For my part, I also had fun reading with Year 6, although my chosen text may have been
too long for the audience, so well-done Year 6 for staying awake! I look forward to
hearing your creative endings for after “the end of the earth” happens – in 12 minutes
time…
Cafeteria Meeting – Tuesday, October 1st
Thank you to the parents who joined us for a meeting with the Malaysia Management
team from SHF who run Delischool, our cafeteria provider. Parents were able to hear
more about the Delischool operation, including the work of their resident nutritionist
and the upcoming themed days while there was also an opportunity for parents to ask
about operational matters affecting their children. The main questions raised were:
Portion sizes relative to cost
The response to this was that the meal plan can help to reduce the cost burden for
parents while also providing free second servings for hungry children. It was also noted
that students can always ask for more food when collecting their meals and they are
able to swap items from set meals if they prefer something different.
Ensuring children consume sufficient food and maintain a balanced diet
Most parents will at some point have experienced the pain of trying to get their children
to eat enough of the right things. Though themed events such as the recent ‘Spinach
Day’ can help broaden horizons the key is to educate young children on the importance
of a balanced diet. To this end, Delischool has agreed to send their nutritionist to
provide some nutritional guidance workshops for students to complement the PSHLE
curriculum.
School duty staff will also continue to help our younger children to make the right
decisions and to eat sufficiently.
Farewell to Mr. Syamsul
Our school librarian, Syamsul Azrin Badulzaman leaves us this week with our best
wishes and thanks. Syamsul has worked extremely hard to establish a beautiful and
well-functioning library and he will be missed at SIKG.
We welcome Syamsul’s replacement librarian, Ms. Siti Hajar who joins us from the
Malaysia University of Science and Technology.
Transportation – Safety notice
We encourage parents who use paid 3rd-party transportation to utilise only providers
that hold a valid permit and have undergone thorough safety checks by the Land Public
Transport Agency (SPAD). This will help ensure that your children travel safely and
securely, avoiding any risks from non-permitted transporters.
Further information regarding the SIKG-approved transportation service, Anthika's
Crew is available via [email protected] or by call/WhatsApp +6016-5567175.
Upcoming Events
Calendar change: Deepavali Dress Day and Assembly
Following a very sensible request from our newly formed Events Committee, our
Deepavali Dress Day and Deepavali Assembly have moved from Monday, October 21st
to Friday, October 25th to be closer to the date of Deepavali itself.
Regards,
Rhys Thomas,
