Dear Students, Parents and Friends of SIKG,
This was another active week on the sporting front. Well done to our boys' team
who attended the KLSL Basketball meeting this week. Although the results didn’t
go our way, the group once again represented the school with pride and will have
learned a great deal from the experience. There was also a great turnout for our
badminton friendlies on Thursday evening with lots of really close games cheered
on by a large crowd of classmates.
Whole School Parent Teacher Conference
Our Term 2 Parent Teacher Conference will be held on Friday the 21st of March
from 2pm to 4pm and Saturday, March 22nd from 9am to 1pm. Secondary parents
may drop in to see their children’s teachers on either of those days. Primary
meetings can be arranged for either day by appointment with the class teacher.
Parents – please bring your children to your meetings, if you can. Students benefit
from participating in discussions which aid their understanding of their progress
and next steps.
Welcome – Ms. Alison Wadsley
Ms. Wadsley will join Mr. Oliver and Ms. Li Li to complete our Secondary
Mathematics team in August 2025. Having taught for 8 years in the UK and then
17 years in Mexico, Ms. Wadsley brings a wealth of experience. She can teach
Mathematics and Additional Mathematics at IGCSE, has taught A-level and brings
as well the ability to teach IGCSE Accounting. Welcome, Ms. Wadsley – we look
forward to working with you.
Supervised hours
Our school prioritises child safety and as a result, we are improving and clarifying
our supervision routines in response to growing numbers of unsupervised children
before and after school.
Monday to Thursday – Children without CCAs
The school only offers supervision by trained staff from 8.15 am until 4.20 pm.
All students who remain in the cafeteria at 4.20 pm will be added to our homework
club CCA to complete work on paper or to read. Access to electronic devices will
not be permitted at the homework club.
Monday to Thursday – Children with CCAs
The first morning CCA is at 7.30 am. Most afternoon CCAs finish by 5 pm with
some extending to 6 pm. Parents will be notified when registering should a CCA’s
finish time exceed 5 pm. We request parents collect their children within 15
minutes of the CCA finish time.
Fridays
Teacher supervision ends at 1.40 pm on Fridays.
ECAs (paid activities)
These are provided by external coaches who will be responsible for the children
for the duration of the activity. Coaches will transfer children directly to parents’/
guardians’ care at the end of their activity.
Emergency contingency
We will provide a safe waiting area near the guard desk for early arrivals and late
departures but please note that children will be unsupervised before 8.15 am and
after 5.15 pm. Although this is not a change to the long-standing practice of the
school, I would like to ensure all parents are aware of the supervision
arrangements.
Thank you, as always, for your understanding and cooperation in making a safer
school for all.
School Bookshop – Hari Raya Aidilfitri Closure
The school bookshop will be closed for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday from the
29th of March to the 9th of April and resume operations on Thursday 10th of April.
New CCTV Installation - Surau
CCTV cameras have now been installed outside the female surau and inside the
male surau to improve the security and safety of our children.
Regards,
