Dear Parents,
I loved books when I was child. It’s a shame that as we grow up into adulthood, that time
that we used to have to read or finish a book is not quite as achievable as it used to be. I
still have that book from Christmas that I haven’t even opened yet! In that moment when I
think how I have too many things to do and don’t have time to read, I remember a quote
from my favourite childhood author that my English Teacher had displayed in my classroom
that I still remember today:
“If you are going to get anywhere in life you have to read a lot of books.”
Roald Dahl
There is a universal consensus and belief that reading books can help open doors to other
opportunities. Reading can help develop our minds, grow our understanding and empathy,
and sharpen our critical thinking and analytical skills. Through reading books of all genres,
we explore new worlds and ideas that add more to our own experiences. Reading is
essential in strengthening language skills and our imaginations that greatly benefit our
knowledge. In a rapidly changing world, reading remains a powerful tool for growing our
learning and passions that play an important role in our life decisions.
As always, a fun packed week of activities to celebrate Book Week across Primary and
Secondary. Many initiatives and activities have taken place across the school which have
encouraged our students to reinforce their love of books, as well as to encourage more
curiosity into reading new and different books. These have included a Book Shop being
stationed in Reception offering a whole array of books for students and parents to
purchase throughout the week. A book swap where students were invited to bring in a
book to swap for another one to read. Never restricting books to just one language, we
invited the community to donate multilingual books to the school; we were delighted to
have counted over 40 multilingual books being donated this week. Class activities including
quizzes, book reviews, presentations, and debates have taken place this week, as well as
being the main theme for Friday assembly. For parents there was a workshop on the
Renaissance Reading Programme to help understand the platform and how this has helped
inspire students’ appetite to reading as much as possible. Today showcased some excellent
Book Week themed costumes to celebrate many universally recognised literature geniuses
and creative characters.
The Kangaroo Math competition took place this week, inspiring students’ passion and
enjoyment of mathematics through creative problem solving. This is a great opportunity for
students to build their confidence in the subject, logical thinking and curiously, whilst at the
same time making it fun and engaging for all those who participate.
Our Under 11 Sports team who attended the FOBISIA Thailand trip comes to an exciting
end tomorrow and will be returning from their trip in the evening. Students and staff have
had a great experience and are excited to share their adventure with family and friends. A
very early start for students and staff who travelled to Shanghai, China for the FOBISIA
Music Festival and will be returning to Malaysia on Monday.
As a school we will always endeavour to offer as many exciting and life-changing
opportunities for our students to experience. Like reading lots of books, also gaining lots of
experiences outside of the classroom can also help you get anywhere in life.
Please note that Friday 1st May will be closed to Labour Day (Public Holiday), and Monday
4th May due to school break. For Star Wars fans, May the fourth be with you!
Warm regards,
Ms Clare Lama,
Deputy Head of Secondary
On behalf of the Senior Leadership Team.
SAFE, HAPPY AND SUCCESSFUL
We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
