Dear Parents and Guardians,
A school’s culture is shaped by what everyone in the building experiences, sees and hears
each day. If we want our students to be reflective, ambitious, kind and willing to improve,
then the adults in the building must model those same qualities. Continuous improvement
is not something we ask only of children; it is something we commit to as professionals and
as a community. Next week, myself, David, Maryam, Clare, Marianne, Sheena and Oli will all
present at the XCL Leadership Conference. We have the largest team of presenters
delivering across the group, which reflects the expertise and professional culture within our
school. It matters that our staff are not only attending professional learning, but
contributing to it and helping shape wider thinking across the group.
Within our own building, our annual CPD Impact Teams have also just completed their work
across the whole school. This year, eight teams have worked on targeted areas of
development linked directly to our School Improvement Plan and to the professional needs
of individual teachers ; all academic staff have been involved. This is adult learning with a
clear purpose: better teaching, stronger relationships, sharper practice and improved
outcomes for students. When teachers keep learning, reflecting and challenging
themselves, students see that improvement is not a one-off event, but a habit.
That same principle sits behind our approach to assessment. IGCSE and A level
examinations are now in full flow and last week, 181 students sat in the same sitting - our
largest ever! Year 10 assessments and Primary GL assessments are also underway this week
with KS3 assessments starting next week. These moments give us important information
about where students are in their learning journey, what they have secured, and where they
need support or further challenge. But assessments are only part of the picture. They are
indicators, not definitions. We will never reduce a child to a grade, score or data point.
Character, attitude, kindness, resilience, curiosity and effort matter deeply — and they
remain central to how we understand and support every student.
We continue to think carefully about how we strengthen our community voice. As part of
our new Community First workshop ideas, we want to place relationships, listening and
partnership at the centre of our weekly Friday coffee mornings and parent engagement
opportunities. These sessions are designed to create more space so that families to feel
connected to the school - our netball teams this morning were a wonderful example of the
PTAs strategy - friends first and we are so pleased to see so much enthusiasm (not
competitiveness!) to this new idea. Thank you to the parents who joined us this morning. It
was a brilliant example of community in action: energetic, good-humoured and just
competitive enough. Opportunities like this matter because schools are at their best when
relationships are built beyond the classroom as well as within it.
There is a great deal to look forward to once the intensity of exam season begins to ease in
a couple of weeks. Dance galas, movie nights, the Summer Fair and our school production
are all on the horizon. With The Addams Family coming to the stage, it seems only right to
say that things may soon become a little mysterious, slightly theatrical and possibly
altogether ooky — in the best possible way.
As always, thank you for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Mrs Cassie Fleming,
Principal,
On behalf of the Senior Leadership Team.
SAFE, HAPPY AND SUCCESSFUL
We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
