Dear Families,
I knew I had made the right move to leave my job as a research and development chemist
in a cosmetics company when I began my first teaching practice at University. From the
minute I entered schools in the Northwest of England, I was consistently inspired by the
level of care and passion teachers showed daily for children's learning and well-being. It
didn't matter the teacher's style, background, culture or education, they all seemed to be
totally engaged in making students learn, progress and be good human beings! As I have
moved from city to city and country to country, I realised that I have been very fortunate in
to be consistently surrounded by amazing teachers and Sri KDU is no exception. Whilst I
know not every teacher is perfect and may not always get things exactly right, I am always
confident the majority go above and beyond every single day to ensure our students feel
Safe, Happy and Successful.
I wanted to highlight teachers in this week's newsletter as today and tomorrow, we join
global communities in celebrating World Teachers’ Day, a special occasion to honour the
dedication, passion, and profound impact of our teachers. While excellent classroom
teaching is the foundation of our school, what truly sets Sri KDU teachers apart is the work
that happens outside of normal school hours. Behind the scenes, our staff dedicate
countless evenings and weekends to enrich student life, ensuring a holistic education that
extends far beyond the classroom.
The running of two Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) every week to help students discover
new passions in arts, academics, and hobbies; the sacrificing of weekends and late
afternoons to coach teams, referee matches, and drive our athletes to competition; the
planning of intricate local excursions and international sports trips that broaden our
students' global perspectives; spending nights away from their own families to lead
overnight residential camps, building student independence and resilience; The
considerable amounts of their own time in rigorous CPD training to master the latest
educational research and technologies and ultimately give this knowledge for our students'
benefit.
In tandem with these global celebrations, we are absolutely thrilled to share some news
from across the XCL Education network. The annual XCL Excellence Awards recognise
outstanding educators who demonstrate absolute distinction, innovative teaching, and a
deep commitment to student growth. This year, our campus was incredibly well-
represented by a stellar group of teachers/leaders who were nominated by peers and
leadership for their transformative work.
Please join us in congratulating our campus nominees:
- Maryam Jazayeri
- Pui Yee Wong
- Shahiraa Sahul Hamid
- Victoria Antoni
- Oli Marecar
Being nominated is a tremendous testament to the hard work, character, and leadership
within our classrooms.
We can now also extend our warmest congratulations to Maryam who was the 2026 XCL
Excellence Award Winner for Student Wellbeing & Safeguarding. Well done Maryam! This
is an excerpt from the supporting speech:
She shows up with calmness. With steadiness. With professionalism. She absorbs difficult
moments so that children feel safe and staff feel supported. She leads always with kindness
and care.
We encourage parents and students alike to take a moment this week to drop a short
thank-you note or email to a teacher who has made a difference. A small word of
appreciation goes a long way.
Thank you to our entire teaching faculty for your dedication to our five school promises.
Happy World Teachers’ Day!
Warm regards,
Mr David Wilcock
Vice Principal and Head of Primary
On behalf of the Senior Leadership Team.
SAFE, HAPPY AND SUCCESSFUL
We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
