Secondary Education: KSSM Curriculum
Malaysian National Curriculum (KSSM)
At Sri KDU National Secondary School, we offer the Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Menengah (KSSM) from Secondary 1 to Secondary 5. Students sit for the SPM examination at Secondary 5.
Sri KDU Secondary School has the approval to implement the Dual Language Programme (DLP) since 2016. Under this programme, schools in Malaysia have the option to teach Science, Mathematics and ICT in either English or Bahasa Melayu. In Sri KDU Secondary School, we teach these subjects in English.
Students in Secondary 1 to 3 are taught Cambridge Lower Secondary (Cambridge Assessment International Education) English, Mathematics & Science, alongside the KSSM curriculum for these subjects. The other compulsory subjects under the KSSM curriculum include Bahasa Melayu, History, Geography, Design & Technology, Islamic Studies (for Muslim students), Moral Studies (for non-Muslim students) and Visual Arts Studies.

At Secondary 4, students have the option of taking up either the Pure Science, Sub-Science or Humanities subject package. The core subjects which the students need to take are Bahasa Melayu, English, Mathematics, Science (for Humanities students), History and Islamic/Moral Studies. The elective subjects for the Pure Science students are Additional Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Sub-Science students take Additional Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics/Biology and Principles of Accounts/Economics/Mandarin while students in the Humanities package have the option to take Principles of Accounts, Economics and Visual Arts Studies/Mandarin as elective subjects.
Enhanced Curriculum
Mandarin
Mandarin is a compulsory subject from Secondary 1 – 3 and is taught at Basic, Intermediate and Advanced learners levels.
At Basic and Intermediate levels, the Mandarin syllabus aims to establish a solid foundation of vocabulary, Chinese knowledge, and communication skills, complementing the KSSM curriculum. This syllabus adopts a holistic approach and is designed to emphasise the development of communication skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
At Advanced level, the focus is on effective communication through Practical Writing, Continuous Writing, Modern Text Comprehension, Classical Text Comprehension, and Idioms. Learners are also encouraged to read widely, both for their own enjoyment and in order to develop an appreciation of how writers achieve their effects. The syllabus also complements other areas of study by encouraging exploration of skills in other general applications.
Information Communication Technology (ICT)
Information Communication Technology (ICT) is a compulsory subject for students of Secondary 1, 2 & 3. During these years, students would be exploring and learning the foundational knowledge and concepts in computer science, specifically on building core programming skills that are relevant to the world today, reinforcing their KSSM studies.
Secondary 1 - Introduction to Programming
Students will be introduced to the foundational concepts of computer programming, which unlocks the ability to make rich, interactive apps. This course uses JavaScript as the programming language, and App Lab as the programming environment to build apps, but the concepts learned in these lessons span all programming languages and tools.
Secondary 2 - Building Apps
Student will continue with the introduction of foundational concepts of computer programming, which unlocks the ability to make rich, interactive apps. This course uses JavaScript as the programming language, and App Lab as the programming environment to build apps, but the concepts learned in these lessons span all programming languages and tools.
Secondary 3 - Web Development
In this level, students will learn how to create and share the content on their own web pages. After deciding what content to be shared with the world, students will learn how to structure and style their pages using HTML and CSS. They will also practise valuable programming skills such as debugging, using resources, and working in a team.
Allocations of non-musical instruments are carried out by the SPA Department on a rotation basis.
Classes are conducted by instructors sourced from established performing arts schools and studios. The curriculum is non-graded with the flexibility to cater to students of different abilities. The focus of the SPA programme is on specialisation and appreciation, on top of exposure.
Students are assessed each semester. The school can also facilitate outsourced exams to be conducted at the school for students if the numbers are substantial.
