Dear families,
It has been another busy week in school, the theme of which appears to have inadvertently been competition. With the announcement of our comic book competition last Friday (and now being proudly displayed in our reception area) to the FOBISIA maths competitions we have run this week. Students are developing their skills and we are hopefully inspiring our children to do their best, NOT just what is good enough. There is an important distinction to be made between these statements and it is important we encourage our children to strive to do more than is required. This will prepare children for future situations of all kinds. Whether we realise it or not, being involved in competition, dealing with the emotions of winning and losing does prepare us for adult hood and develops important skills such as resilience, perseverance and tenacity. These are also the experiences our students will remember when they are our age, the excitement, the nerves and the adrenaline. They will remember the friendship and the camaraderie and the feeling of belonging to something bigger, in this case, the school community.
As well as internal and external academic competition this week, we also look to sporting competition. 70 children compete for the school in a cross country AIMS event being held tomorrow (Saturday) at Mardi. This is the schools first AIMS competition and one we have been waiting a long time for! Personally, I hope it is a far cry from cross country events I have experienced in the UK with boggy fields and inevitable rain. Very good luck to all involved and a huge thank you to the staff and parents who are supporting this. Next week, we also have our first football fixtures of the academic year for U9, U11 and U13. Again, best of luck to all involved! Healthy competition and channeled competition should be encouraged and builds soft skills we talk so much about.
Leadership and soft skill development was the theme of our coffee morning in school today and a valid question asked to us from parents, is how do we offer a holistic education and how are we actually building future leaders, as is our mission? Our main programs for leadership are the Robins program for the primary school (inspired by Sir Ken Robinson) and our MYLEADER program in the secondary (supplemented also by PBL and Life Skills) both programs encourage students to track their progress and challenge involvement and engagement in activities which may be out of your childs comfort zone. They inspire students to try new things, develop interests and to give back to their communities. All of which are necessary in not only university application which becomes a focus higher up the school, but also to become citizens of the world. Please reach out to your childs class teacher if you would like more information on these programs.
As we look towards the end of this term, we are busily working with the PTA on our Divali celebrations. One of the activities we propose is Diya painting. This is an activity to be done at home, with acrylic paints. If you are interested in purchasing diya through the school, we ask for you to complete the following form. Be advised that we will have limited stocks so to avoid disappointment, please use the MS form for ordering. The closing time for the form is is 9am Friday 7th October. All Diya are charged at RM5 and proceeds will be donated to charity. https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=N3JHLOWuTEavl5ita3xO_t4FIiOBsGdBoo5SWcgT5PJUOTJUN1pWVk1HNEZYWTdZTVhXVzk1UUdWRy4u
Have a wonderful weekend,

Head of Campus & Secondary School
On behalf of the Senior Leadership Team.
We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
