Dear Families,
As the landscape of education changes for schools worldwide, constant adaptation and
evolution is the key to ensuring SRI KDU students receive the best possible learning
experience. Therefore, we continually reflect on our performance as a school and are aware
of the need to embrace improvement plans as a strategic roadmap for progress. These
plans are designed to serve as catalysts for positive change, fostering a culture of
‘Continuous Improvement.’
At the recent ‘Looking for Learning’ Coffee Morning, we shared that we are currently
collecting evidence on ten specific school development strands that directly relate to our
five promises. This evidence is designed to support our own self-evaluation of where we are
as a school in relation to the standards, subsequently informing SRI KDU’s improvement
plan for 2024/2025. Self-evaluation therefore must be transparent, open and honest to
ensure that we are effectively meeting the needs of our community. The evidence to
support our self-evaluation comes from several sources. Diverse examples of evidence
include our academic and holistic data, student voice, professional development,
attendance figures, parent engagement programmes, amongst many others. This bank of
evidence is then used by our team to ‘grade’ us against the criteria for each standard and to
then subsequently create action steps to meet the needs of our school community. Parents
can help us greatly with many performance indicators as their feedback often provides clear
evidence that some initiatives are working, and some are not! The parent survey is one
specific example of evidence that informs our next steps. This is most useful when we have
a large percentage of our parents completing it as it gives us a picture of what the majority
think on school performance and whether we are fulfilling our promises.
One question at the Coffee Morning was: “As this is for next year, does this mean you are
not doing anything now!?” A great question! Hopefully, our community can see that we are
initiating improvements now, improvements that are based on both last year’s school
improvement plan and both ongoing ‘emerging’ reviews and self-evaluations in the last six
months. To clarify, the collection of evidence to inform next year’s SRI KDU improvement
plan highlights the strategic approach that school leaders need to take to ensure a
systematic and sustainable approach to school improvement. New initiatives, innovations
and improvements, need to be carefully planned with clear action steps, the personnel
responsible identified and time-bound review processes put in place prior to any academic
year. Whilst there will always be factors that ‘emerge’ that need a quick action plan, it is
always hoped that our school leaders have identified the ‘big picture’ items that we need to
develop prior, via these improvement and self-evaluation processes. These processes are, of
course, most effective with the community’s support.
By involving staff, parents, and students in the evidence collecting and planning process, a
sense of shared responsibility and ownership to ‘Continuous Improvement’ is hopefully
cultivated. This collective engagement strengthens the sense of community, reinforcing the
idea that education is a collaborative effort that extends beyond the classroom walls. It is
therefore anticipated that we will consistently and regularly share our vision for improving
the school via our growing parent engagement programmes.
In conclusion, implementing a comprehensive improvement plan is not just a necessity; it is
a commitment to the continual growth and prosperity of SRI KDU, Subang Jaya and most
importantly of all, to our students. By embracing change, fostering collaboration, and
staying attuned to emerging trends, we can create an environment that empowers students
to excel and be Safe, Happy and Successful.
Have a lovely weekend,
On behalf of the Senior Leadership Team,
David Wilcock
Head of Primary
We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
