Dear Families,
We hope this newsletter finds you well and enjoying the start of the new half term. We have some important updates and events to share with you regarding our school activities.
Our End-of-term Assessments for KS3, KS4, and KS5 students are approaching. These will take place from the 26th of February until the 8th of March. All exam timetables have been shared with the students. We will continue to ensure that students are aware of what to expect and are prepared for these assessments. For KS4 and 5 students, these assessments are formal mock papers, despite this, we will continue to run full timetables for students, just as we will throughout the summer examination series. Students will be asked to go to their classes when they are not sitting an exam and our teachers will be helping them revise and ready themselves. The goal of assessments is always to understand assess true understanding and progress, not to create unnecessary stress. We ask for our students to give their best, so we can understand what is next in their educational journeys. We ask for your support in encouragement and reassurance and having students know that we believe in them and are here to help them succeed.
We are excited to invite KS3 (Years 7-9) parents to a special event on Tuesday, 27th February, from 3:10-4:00 pm. This "Show and Tell" evening will give you the opportunity to see firsthand some of the amazing work our students have been doing in each of their classes. Students will guide their parents around the school, showcasing their projects and achievements. This coincides with the Primary progress reports shared this week. These reports are designed to give insight into student’s current progress and targets in primary maths and English. This is also an opportunity to remind parents of the ‘Open Door’ policy whereby all, parents can book appointments with class teachers at any time of the year to discuss progress. You will notice as we continue to fulfil our promise of ‘continuous improvement’ to you, small tweaks and initiatives which are designed to develop and improve what we already do will be added to our calendars. We want to ensure you have all you need to support your children at home and recognise that part of this process is taking every opportunity in welcoming families into the school to share learning.
As you may be aware, this time of the academic year, is crucial for our Year 9 students as this is the time, they have the opportunity chose what they want to study for their IGCSE courses starting next year. In preparation for this, we have provided a number of opportunities where students and parents have been encouraged to ask questions about the pathways provided, the languages they can study and the subjects they can elect. One of these events took place this week, where our Year 11 mentored the Year 9 students on the IGCSE Options available. This was a valuable opportunity for Year 9 students to receive guidance from their older peers as they make important decisions about their academic pathways. It was wonderful to see leadership from the year 11s at this event and for them to be given the opportunity to support from a student’s perspective. The form for year 9 subject selection has been shared today and must be filled and submitted by 15th March. All questions are valid when it comes to the future of your child so, please reach out if you need to.
Congratulations to all swimmers this week and thank you to all parents who we able to attend to show their support. Very good luck to all students participating at the KTJ games this weekend!
On behalf of the leadership team,
Maryam Jazayeri
Deputy Head of Secondary School
We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
