Dear Families
I hope you have had a lovely week and have seen your children settle into routines, finding
their stride with learning, blossoming friendships and school life.
Last weekend we launched our CCA program with over 158 activities weekly across the
school providing opportunities for children both inside and outside of their normal
curriculums. 1533 places have been taken and whether your child has chosen an activity for
the first time or has demonstrated a long term commitment to an activity such as karate,
we hope they have found something they will love and thrive in. Co-curricular activities,
much like Harry Potter's involvement in Quidditch, play a crucial role in a student's
development by offering experiences that go beyond academics. Through Quidditch, Harry
not only honed his physical skills and competitive spirit, but also learned valuable lessons in
teamwork, perseverance, and leadership. These experiences contributed to his growth as a
resilient and confident individual, qualities that were as important in his life as any spell he
mastered in the classroom. Our goal is not just to prepare students for exams and top
academic outcomes, but to prepare them for life, instilling values that will guide them
through challenges and opportunities alike. This doesn't always need to be sports however
and we are pleased to see significantly popular Art and Design, STEM and music activities in
the week providing breadth and meeting the interests of our community. We are also
pleased to get new initiatives such as CREST up and running and our long awaited Duke of
Edinburgh award.
We have tried over the years to continuously improve and develop our CCA program; an
idea that resonates deeply with the theory of marginal gains. Popularized by British cycling
coach Dave Brailsford, this theory suggests that small, incremental improvements in any
process add up to significant enhancements over time. We understand that to adopt to this
mindset, we understand that success is not about making huge leaps all at once, but about
consistently striving to be better today than they were yesterday, better next week than we
were this, better next term than this one and so forth. This is a theory I have started
Induction for staff with over the past two academic years. There are always areas for
development and identifying these, and knowing what to do about them are crucial. This
year we are investing significantly in staff development and opportunities for staff to find
their own marginal gains, thus continuing to improve the Quality of Education we offer to
our families. Our first Professional Development session this week kicked off on Tuesday
with our collective vision for Teaching and Learning and how we can personalise learning
more effectively using AI. Mr Wilcock, as Vice Principal, will drive this process this year,
thank you in advance to him and to Ms Belen for running this first session.
We go into the weekend having run a full election process this afternoon in the secondary
school to appoint our respective Head Boy and Head Girl. Exposing children to elections at
a young age is crucial because it helps them understand the principles of democracy and
the importance of civic engagement. Through this process, children develop a sense of
responsibility and the recognition that their voice matters in shaping the future of their
community (and in time, their country). This early exposure promotes children to be active
citizens who are more likely to participate in elections and contribute thoughtfully to
society as they grow older. we look forward to working with this part of our Student
Leadership to make marginal gains together to improve our students experience.
Have a lovely weekend,
Cassie Fleming,
Principal
On behalf of the Senior Leadership Team
We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
