Dear Families
It was wonderful this week to see the great numbers attending the ‘Meet the Teacher’ event
across both Primary and Secondary. Making connections with your child’s teacher helps not
only to strengthen understanding of learning and teaching philosophy, but it also tells your
child that you are taking an invaluable interest in their education. As I said to parents in
one of the classes, we are privileged as educators that we get to care for and teach the
most valuable thing in your lives, your children. Therefore, it is important we employ
teachers who can ensure Our Mission – ‘Safe, Happy and Successful’ is real for all children
and their families. Teachers are of course the guiding force behind the success of our
students, nurturing young minds and fostering a love for learning that extends beyond the
classroom. But what makes a great teacher? And how do we ensure that our educators are
continually equipped to meet the diverse needs of every student?
As you all know, teaching in 2024 is far more than delivering lessons and assessing
progress. It’s about creating a positive, engaging, and inclusive environment where each
student feels valued and inspired. Our teachers work tirelessly to adapt their teaching
methods to cater to different learning styles, emotional needs, and cultural backgrounds.
They are not only facilitators, but also mentors, counsellors, and role models. This
multifaceted role requires a deep understanding of each student’s unique journey, which
can be both challenging and immensely rewarding.
To navigate these complexities, continuous professional development is essential. Just as
our students learn and grow, so too must our teachers. At Sri KDU, we are committed to the
Continuous Improvement of our teaching staff through ongoing training and
development opportunities. Whether it’s mastering the latest educational technology,
exploring new teaching strategies, or understanding the latest research in child psychology,
our teachers are always expanding their knowledge and skills, with many currently
undertaking Masters courses, International Education CPD, and National Leadership
Qualifications. As Vice Principal, one of my responsibilities is to lead learning and teaching
across the school and ensure all teachers have access to quality professional development
courses and opportunities. Recently in our Induction week, we all collaborated on a vision
for learning and teaching at Sri KDU SJ, whereby we watched examples of lessons,
discussed and evaluated the values and philosophies of each other, and created criteria for
learning and teaching we expect to see in each other’s classrooms. It was a rewarding and
successful experience, highlighted by a clear consensus on what elements were
fundamental to our Vision for Learning and Teaching. This vision and supporting criteria
will now be used when leaders visit lessons to both evaluate and most importantly, support
teachers, in developing best practice. This will add to our already comprehensive teacher
support and development programme.
The ultimate goal of this teacher training is to better meet the needs of our students. As
our world evolves, so do the skills and knowledge required to thrive in it. Our teachers are
committed to preparing students for the future, ensuring they are not only academically
proficient but also emotionally resilient, socially aware, and globally minded. Through
continuous improvement, our teachers can adapt to the ever-changing educational
landscape, incorporating new methods and technologies that enrich the learning
experience. This adaptability is crucial in addressing the diverse needs of Sri KDU students,
whether they require additional support, enrichment opportunities, or a different approach
to learning.
As a school, we believe that investing in our teachers is the best way to invest in our
students. We hope that when you met with our teachers this week, you had the assurance
that we have a fabulous group of dedicated, trained professionals whose intent is to ensure
your children are Safe, Happy and Successful.
Have a lovely weekend,
David Wilcock,
Vice Principal & Head of Primary
On behalf of the Senior Leadership Team
We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
