Dear Parents,
As we progress into the academic year, we find ourselves at an important stage—target-setting time! This is a time when we, as the Sri KDU school community, focus on setting clear goals for our students, staff, and the school itself. These goals are designed to support our ongoing commitment to Continuous Improvement and prepare our students for the future. As parents are currently attending Target Setting Meetings for our students, staff too are setting themselves personal and whole school learning targets. These targets are designed to develop the very best practice in many parts of the school, with the focus, as always, to support the needs of our students.
Our approach to setting targets revolves around the concept of SMART goals—those that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. As Zig Ziglar said, "A goal properly set is halfway reached." These principles guide all aspects of our teaching and learning, helping us maintain focus and track progress effectively.
Students also play a key role in their own target-setting process. By establishing clear goals, we encourage them to take responsibility for their own learning and development. Student targets may focus on Top Academic Outcomes, Holistic Character Development, time management, classroom engagement, social skills etc., but they should be personalised and pertinent to the individual. Personalisation is key! I am sure if I asked 20 parents in our community what their targets or goals were for 2024-25, we would have 20 different answers and all would be as equally valid and important. Student targets help them to stay focused on their academic journey and contribute to a more productive and engaged learning environment. As Tony Robbins said, "Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible." Through clear goal-setting, our students can make their Continuous Improvement visible and measurable, allowing them to experience success over short periods of time.
As a school, we are committed to continuous improvement and future-proofing our practices. The recent visit of COBIS was designed to support our own internal self-evaluation in identifying areas to target for improvement. We were very pleased to hear from the COBIS team that our own targets matched their thoughts on what our areas for school development may include. These targets hopefully reflect our dedication to creating a supportive and forward-thinking learning environment for our students - a few recent examples include our significant investment in a new school field, a substantial amount of new non-fiction and fiction library books, and our upcoming ‘Maker Lab’ in the Primary School.
As we move forward, let’s keep in mind that success is not achieved overnight. It is a continuous process that requires commitment, focus, and collaboration. By working together and setting SMART goals, we can ensure that this year will be one of growth, achievement, and preparation for the future.
Thank you for your ongoing support as we embark on this exciting journey of improvement and success.
Have a lovely weekend,
David Wilcock,
Vice Principal and Head of Primary
On behalf of the Senior Leadership Team
We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
