Dear parents,
As we reflect on the first half term of this academic year, Id like to celebrate the significant
strides we have made across all so many areas of our educational provision. We opened in
August with the largest cohort of students and the largest staffing group since we opened
as a school in 2017. It is the first time in our history we have reopened from the summer
holidays bigger than when we closed in June. As we look through the last 11 weeks, I hope,
our promise of relentless commitment to continuous improvement is evident.
A major highlight of our continuous improvement has been the launch of new programs
tailored to meet the diverse needs of our students this term. We introduced a bilingual
program in Year 2, which was commended in initial feedback from COBIS for its success in
integrating both English and Mandarin. Additionally, our ELLA courses for students from
Years 3 to 9 has provided crucial language support, allowing us to cater to learners who
may have traditionally have not been able to join the school. These initiatives, along with
our IGCSE Foundation program and integrated studies in Primary, have not only enhanced
the learning experience but have also helped students feel secure and engaged, as
evidenced by our PASS assessments. PASS identifies Pupils Attitudes to Self and School and
we were thrilled to see some of the highest measures of results; identifying that students
are happy in school with us.
Our efforts to provide holistic support extend beyond academics. This year, we have
expanded our leadership structure to include roles dedicated to safeguarding and student
welfare. We strengthened our academic teams, while also appointing a new counsellor, Pui
Yee, to provide extra support to our most vulnerable students. We’ve involved student
voices in important decisions, such as uniform choices, school lunch menus, and even the
creation of our CCAs. By giving students a platform to express their opinions, we’ve
fostered a more inclusive school culture where everyone feels heard and valued. A recent
petition from secondary students will yield results in the movement of furniture and
although minor, the team are pleased students have the confidence and skills to make
themselves heard when they want or need something collectively. The student council have
taken control of our vending machines and I am looking forward to students taking control
of the canteen at the end of November in a Student Choice day where they will dictate the
menu for the school.
Facilities development was a key area of focus over the summer holidays and will continue
to be over this year. Our new Lightning Warning System, installed and tested last week,
reflects our commitment to safety, and upgrades to our flooring throughout the school is
imminent. Work will commence over the Deepavali holidays on the admin quad walkway
first to progress through the school during each subsequent holiday period. Additional
work next week includes expanding our CCTV network, creating a spinning room and
importantly developing our space on the fifth floor to a dual use room to provide in time,
an indoor space for Primary students at lunchtime and a dedicated examinations space for
our examination students.
Looking ahead, we remain committed to fostering a dynamic, supportive, and forward-
thinking learning environment. It has been wonderful to see the spirit of unity and respect
during both Malaysia Day and this week, Deepavali. Our students, staff, and families
embraced these festivities with enthusiasm, sharing traditions and values that are deeply
rooted in our diverse heritage. From vibrant performances, to sharing food, to appreciating
cultural art and traditions, these celebrations have strengthened our understanding of one
another and reinforced the importance of cultural appreciation. By honoring these
significant occasions together, we foster a deeper sense of community and pride in the rich
cultural tapestry that in my opinion makes our school so special. I would like to thank
particularly the PTA, parent volunteers and staff working groups who have made our
celebrations such a success; your energy, passion and love make such a significant
difference to the experiences and opportunities our children have. We invite all members of
our community to engage with us in upcoming celebrations and experience firsthand the
remarkable progress we continue to make in preparing our students for success both inside
and outside the classroom. Together, to quote one of our PTA members last night, we will
keep raising the bar for activities and education to develop and grow.
To those celebrating next week, we hope you have a bright and joyful Deepavali and for all,
a well deserved rest in preparation for next half term! Thankyou for your ongoing support.
Have a lovely weekend,
Cassie Fleming,
Principal,
On behalf of the Senior Leadership Team
SAFE, HAPPY AND SUCCESSFUL
We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
