Dear Parents,
At Sri KDU, Subang Jaya, we are deeply committed to our promise of continuous
improvement and how this enhances student development from EYFS to Year 13. As part of
this commitment, we emphasise the significance of school reports and parent-teacher
meetings. As some of our face-to-face parent meetings commence today, it is worth
reflecting on why reports and teacher feedback are vital components in a child’s
educational journey.
John Hattie, one of the world’s leading educational researchers, asserts, “The most powerful
single influence on achievement is feedback.” Our school reports and teacher feedback our
aimed at providing detailed insights into your child’s academic progress, strengths, and
areas for development. They offer more than just ‘grades’; they are a pathway for growth,
guiding students toward ‘Top Academic Outcomes’. In a close community such as ours,
parent teacher meetings also provide time to connect on a personal level, personalised to
your child and your family. Parent-teacher meetings and school reports also serve as a
bridge, ensuring that feedback is understood, questions are addressed, and clear strategies
are put in place for improvement. As Sir Ken Robinson reminds us, “Parents are the most
important educators in a child’s life.” These parent teacher meetings are therefore designed
to empower you all to actively support your child’s learning journey.
The Sri KDU philosophy at is one of continuous learning and improvement but also, we like
to focus on a child’s holistic character development. As a parent myself, I recognise that we
can offer focus on our children’s gaps in learning. However, those of you who have heard
me speak on a child’s well-being and growth will remember me reinforcing persistently that
it is vital to focus on our children’s strengths to maximise their confidence and leverage this
for success in wider areas of their life. What are they good at? What are their passions?
Are they kind and caring? Do they articulate better than they write? When meeting the
teachers this week, I hope you find out these strengths first. Everybody is good at
something. Everybody has gaps in their learning. Therefore, we recognise that whether a
child is excelling or facing challenges, there is always an opportunity for growth. The
purpose of our school reports is to highlight achievements while setting goals for the next
steps, reinforcing a growth mindset in every student. Carol Dweck, author of Mindset: The
New Psychology of Success, emphasizes, “Becoming is better than being.” Learning is an
evolving process, and our school reports help shape that journey.
At Sri KDU we aspire to delivering a world-class education, and that starts with a clear,
collaborative approach to student progress.
We thank you for being an active part of your child’s learning journey.
Have a lovely weekend,
David Wilcock,
Vice Principal & Head of Primary,
On behalf of the Senior Leadership Team.
SAFE, HAPPY AND SUCCESSFUL
We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
