IBDP - Subject
The IB Diploma Programme has become an integral part of the school promoting lifelong learning amongst its graduates and disseminating its intrinsic values and ideals throughout the school. A rigorous academic and personal challenge, the programme gives learners the opportunity to develop their skills both inside and outside the classroom. Students are expected to carry out a 4000 word research project in the form of an Extended Essay, to develop their thinking skills through the Theory of Knowledge course and to play a role in the wider community through the Creativity, Activity and Service parts of the programme.
At SKISS, the IB Diploma Programme can trace its roots back to mid-2000s, before being fully incorporated into Sri KDU International School at its founding in 2011. Students have consistently attained an average of 35 points or more and this has led to graduates being accepted into some of the most prestigious universities in the world. The programme continues to expand and in September 2018 new subjects were offered in response to the growing numbers of students.
Sri KDU International School (SKIS) currently offers the challenging IBDP pre-university course which encompasses both the Sciences and Arts, emphasizing critical thinking as well as developing communication and social skills.
Subjects are assessed internally and externally, with the final external assessments usually consisting of two or three timed-written examinations. The IB diploma is awarded to students who obtain at least 24 (highest being 45) points, subject to minimum levels of satisfactory performance across the entire programme. Performance is measured against pre-specified assessment criteria based on the outlined objectives of each subject syllabus.
We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
