Early Years Foundation Stage - Kota Damansara
Laying the
Foundations of
Learning
Early Years education is a child’s first experience with school and it’s important to start them off right. Besides enriching experiences and helping to shape a child’s character, this time also forms an important foundation for their future schooling.
When children are given the opportunity to initiate activities, led mindfully by adults, it sparks their innate curiosity and leads to a conducive and secure learning environment. This balance of guided discovery and independent exploration develops essential skills naturally. That’s why it’s important to excite and engage children to nurture a life-long love of learning and have a positive impact on future academic success.
Children must be given the chance to investigate and understand the world through sensory exploration and firsthand encounters. Hands-on activities such as art, music, storytelling and outdoor play aren’t just for fun - they give children different ways to explore the world around them. The curriculum at our kindergarten in Kota Damansara follows both the British Early Years Foundation Stage and National Curriculum alongside Sri KDU International School, Kota Damansara Education’s Core Values and customised programmes. This approach enables children to expand their thoughts, develop concepts, and reinforce skills from an early age.
Our Early Years Curriculum emphasises the seven areas of learning:
Physical Development
Communication and Language
Literacy
Mathematics
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Expressive Arts and Design
Understanding of the World
Principles of Effective Learning
We closely monitor children’s engagement with the characteristics of effective learning. These principles focus not only on what children learn but the way in which they engage with others and the environment through:

01
Play And Exploring
Children develop essential cognitive and motor skills through discovery and problem-solving.

02
Active Learning
Involves hands-on experiences such as puzzles, group projects or being introduced to new materials.

03
Creating and Thinking Critically
Encourages problem-solving and reasoning so children can evaluate situations and solve challenges with confidence.
Empowering Young Learners
Learning can’t be a one-way street. What this means is that children shouldn’t just listen, as they learn best when they explore, ask questions and try things out for themselves. Our kindergarten in Kota Damansara doesn’t just focus on what children learn. We also place importance on how they engage with others and the environment.
The goal in our Early Years programme is to empower children to be independent, resilient, confident learners who can make decisions and express themselves confidently. This is achieved through active learning, playing, exploring, and scaffolding by practitioners.
Our Aims
01
We aim to create a positive learning environment which inspires a child’s curiosity to explore and learn.
02
We utilise child-centred practises which tailor the curriculum to meet the individual needs and interests of each child.
03
We set solid foundations that pave the way for a child’s individual path into education.
04
We strive to provide the highest possible standards of education and instill a lifelong love of learning.
We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
