During this period of school closure, our students are using online/digital learning to ensure continuity in their lessons. This is a seamless transition at Sri KDU International School (SKIS) as the students have experienced online learning from time to time.
Check out a quick Q&A on Online Learning that is being carried out at SKIS, during term time, whilst we are under the Movement Control Order (MCO):
What are the main tools being used by your teachers and students to facilitate E-learning?
At SKIS, the main tools being used to facilitate remote teaching and learning are the Google applications including Google Classrooms (GC). Tasks are uploaded to the platform with deadlines for completion. Students will then submit their work through GC; the teachers mark the work and give feedback on it remotely.
As for LIVE teaching, the school is currently using Google Hangouts for lessons and Google Meets for larger gatherings e.g. Assemblies. For the secondary levels, lessons are conducted as normal following the students’ current timetables. Meanwhile, for the younger kids, to avoid too much of ‘lecture-time’, which results in loss of interest, they will then have interactive learning using primary-based software such as Class Dojo and Seesaw.
Do all teachers use the same online tools?
Yes. As mentioned above.
How do students continue to interact with each other during lessons?
As some lessons are delivered through LIVE teaching, students and teachers can interact in a similar way as they do in class. This is very important for the well-being of students and teachers as it maintains a sense of connection.
How long is your school prepared to keep this going?
Sri KDU International School is well-prepared to conduct the online learning throughout the MCO regardless of the duration. Staff and students are well prepared as a certain amount of online learning at SKIS has been a normal practice, for a number of years, at all levels.
Primary students have enjoyed the interactive online learning using the platforms (as mentioned in Q&A #1).
Secondary students are very familiar with Google Classrooms as they have been used for at least four years as part of the normal learning programme. Notes and handouts are always accessible online in case students are out for co-curricular activities or even on sick leave.
However, we still hope that the school can be re-opened soon as we believe that school is the best place to learn.
How is the parents’ feedback on Online Learning?
It is amazing how the school has embraced online learning so well; parents have sent messages of appreciation and completed our surveys to gauge their satisfaction. Below are some examples of positive feedback from our existing parents:
- My child and I are enjoying the online learning. Thank you to the teachers.
- My child and I are enjoying the work set on the Seesaw app. The app is easy to use and the instructions from teachers are clear. We also get real-time feedback. Thank you for helping us keep the kids learning and occupied.
- Thank you to all the teachers in SKIS for the efforts and attention put in to ensure that the students of SKIS continue to get their education at the highest level possible. I really appreciate it.
- It looked like they truly enjoyed your Seesaw activities and your Hangout classes. It is apparent that you have put in a lot of thoughts into your teaching methodology with plenty of variations and creativity and with that extra mile, you made learning fun. Your marking system is also commendable, making them think again to correct their mistakes. Thank you for making the children learn in eagerness. It must have been challenging at times.
This is a tough time for everyone. It's challenging staying at home with the fear of the virus and unknown near future. But here at Sri KDU International School, we are continuing to provide a high quality of education as well as supporting our students to thrive in a VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous) world.
To the students and families of Sri KDU, #stayhome #staysafe and most important, #stayhealthy!
We visited numerous international schools in Klang-Valley and Sri KDU Subang Jaya was not even on our list. Reason being it is way out of our travelling radius. However, we are glad we made the visit to the school before our final call, and it was the best decision ever! It was a huge transition period for us during the first 2 weeks into school, but the school’s team (Teachers, Administrative and Parent’s Teacher Association) made us feel right at home. We were given clear guidance and was kept well informed on the happenings in the school. My daughter blended into the community quite well with the care provided by the Homeroom teacher. All the teachers here are the kindest, as she told me. She looks forward to going to school and has become more disciplined in terms on knowing what tasks she needs to complete daily. She has gained so much confidence during this short period of time and was given the encouragement to explore and develop her abilities here. She was just selected as the new Primary House Captain for Year 6 AY2022/2023.
Every parent want to find the ‘perfect’ school for their child and are afraid of making the wrong decision. For us, as long she is safe and happy, we believe, she will eventually find the way to her own success.
